Plot: We are introduced to Sydney Bristow, a graduate student in LA, who has as rather unusual after-college-job as an agent for a covert division of the CIA called SD-6, which she has been doing since her freshman year. (Or Fresher to those in the UK).

Her friends are Francie and Will, who has to hide her unrequited love for Sydney because she already has a boyfriend- a British doctor called Danny. When Danny proposes, and Sydney accepts, we decides to tell him about her not-so-typical job, despite the advice of her partner Dixon. When she returns from Singapore, where she has been on a mission, she discovers Danny dead in the bath. She accuses SD-6 directer Alvin Sloan, of killing him. he replies that she killed him.

She also discovers that her father Jack, who she really doesn't get on with, is an SD-6 agent. That only that, SD-6 aren't a branch of the CIA, they're an enemy of the CIA. She takes a long time off work after Danny's death, and then returns. Borrowing Will's sisters passport and credit card, and dying her pink to look like her she flies back to Singapore to complete the mission that she was doing before, losing a couple of her teeth to a Taiwanese agent along the way. 

When Sydney returns to America, she goes to the CIA and tells them her story. She becomes a double agent under the command of Officer Michael Vaughn, and begins reporting her missions at SD-6 to him. She also discovers that there is another double agent in SD-6- her father!

Trivia:

 In the US, this episode didn't have any commercials. In the UK, it ran for 90 minutes instead of the usual hour.

SD-6's cover is a Bank called Credit Dauphine. Everybody thinks that Sydney's job is in the bank.
